It’s been finally confirmed. Rumors of a delay have been circulating since the late September, but now it’s official, Obsidian’s top chief, when asked about this official appeared to be pleased and issued this statement on Eurogamer:
“We’re very happy that SEGA has made the decision to hold back the shipment of the game in order to give it the best chance at becoming the publishing success that we at Obsidian and our partners at SEGA are striving for,” Obsidian boss Feargus Urquhart said in a statement.
Alpha Protocol has been in a tough limbo for some time, it’s been delayed twice and the game was announced at least two years ago and now it’s slated for a Spring 2010 release. On one hand, I’m sad because it’s another 6 months or so that we won’t get our hands on the game, on the other, Sega is being cautious and allowing Obsidian to work more on the title can also be seen as positive change in Sega’s policies as they have been accused from time to time of rushing their titles to meet deadlines, so maybe Sega’s patience will be good. It’s not like Sega is the first to do this, Microsoft Games Studios, for example, has been extremely generous to Remedy over it’s Alan Wake title.
